Abdulrahman Hamdi’s artwork has been adorning mansions for sale in the world’s film capital, with some of the residential properties where his works hang fetching more than $14 million.
JEDDAH: A Saudi artist is creating a name for himself in Hollywood after his paintings were chosen to grace the walls of some of the most opulent homes in the famed Los Angeles area.
Abdulrahman Hamdi’s artwork has been adorning mansions for sale in the world’s film capital, with some of the residential properties where his works hang fetching more than $14 million.
Every day, there is something fresh to see and experience in an abstract artwork.

Hamdi gained a “wonderful opportunity” to work for Premier Stagers, a leading US luxury staging and interior design company, with the help of his mother, his strongest supporter, a breakthrough that has helped to create a shopwindow for his paintings.
And that’s where his American success story ends: One of his paintings was featured on the front cover of a real estate magazine in Los Angeles, and Vogue Arabia included an article about Hamdi with a picture of another of his paintings.
His artistic abilities were first noticed by his kindergarten instructors, but he claims that in primary school, classmates were more interested in football and that his tutors frowned on his drawings.
Hamdi, who has a master’s degree in law and now lives in Los Angeles, told Arab News that he has been enamored with great art since he was a child.
“At the time, my kindergarten classmates were counting down the minutes until physical education class started, while I was counting down the minutes until art class started. I used to put money aside (to buy painting materials) from the gifts I received from my relatives during Eid.”
Abstractionism gradually piqued his interest, and he began to share his work on social media sites like Instagram in the hopes of one day being a professional artist.
“I find abstract art to be an intriguing art form because of its broad breadth. Every day, one sees and feels something fresh in an abstract painting,” he added. Hamdi, however, was injured in a car accident in late 2014 that drastically changed his viewpoint on life.
“I was imprisoned by my own pains and memories. I couldn’t even put my sentiments into words. I was absolutely obliterated. I recognized then that drawing was the only way for me to get out of my misery.
“After the awful occurrence was finished, colors took on a new meaning for me, and I began to react with them differently,” he continued.
He was first worried about exhibiting his abstract paintings in public, anxieties that were quickly confirmed when exhibition halls turned him down. However, he claimed that the current reforms in Saudi culture had changed perceptions and that art had been given a higher role thanks to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s support and organizations like the Misk Foundation.
Hamdi’s debut show was at the Misk Historic Jeddah event in 2017, and the following year he participated in Misk Art, which urged artists to use their work to promote their cultural identity.
